Spectroscopic diagnostics of the plasma in the cathode region of a nitrogen glow discharge

2014 Spatially resolved spectroscopic diagnostics such as plasma-induced emission, laser-induced fluorescence and laser optogalvanic spectroscopy are used to characterize the cathode sheath and the negative glow of an abnormal glow dc discharge in nitrogen. These diagnostics provide local information on the excitation and ionization functions, on the concentrations of ions and on the rotational temperature of the various species in the plasma of the cathode region.
